Stratford Housing Authorityprovides housing assistance to low income residents through themanagement of programs such as Low Rent Public Housing and the HousingChoice Voucher Program - Section 8. These programs are income based andthe eligibility requirements are set by HUD. There may be a waiting listfor vouchers or rentals and at times the lists may close to newapplicants due to the overwhelming need for housing assistance and thelong wait time for assistance for those already on the waiting lists. Ifyou are in need of housing assistance please contact the HousingAuthority directly to obtain more information about program eligibilityrequirements, availability of assistance or rentals, the status of anywaiting lists and their application procedures.
The Authority owns and manages 514 family and elderly apartments, and, through the Federal Housing Choice Voucher Program, assists another 280 families residing in private apartments in the Town of Stratford. The Authority is also contracted to manage, throughout the greater Bridgeport area, in excess of 600 apartments operated by the State Department of Social Services Federal Housing Voucher Program through J. D'Amelia & Associates of Waterbury, Connecticut.
The Section 8 Wait List is currently closed. The Authority advertises wait list openings in local newspapers.
