About This Building

Portage Metropolitan Housing Authority provides housing assistance through a portfolio of housing options
for families, disabled persons and senior citizens. In addition to those housing units, PMHA also administers housing subsidy programs that allow households to rent or own affordable, safe and decent permanent housing. PMHA does not provide emergency assistance for housing or utilities, but works closely with several agencies that may be able to provide aid.

PMHA Owned Units
Public housing accounts for most of the housing owned and managed by PMHA. Rents are charged on the basis of household income, with subsidy from the federal government intended to pay the remaining costs of operation and maintenance. PMHA has 303 units of Public Housing.

PMHA also owns and operates 27 units of market-rate housing in Kent. These units are not government subsidized, and so they are managed to both affordable housing and to generate non-HUD income for the housing authority to use in furthering its mission throughout the county.
