Eligibility
The McAlester Housing Authority (MHA) is currently accepting Public Housing waiting list pre-applications for families and senior/disabled households.
The MHA offers three Public Housing community with 274 units for families and senior/disabled households, ranging in size from 1 to 3 bedrooms.
To apply, visit the MHA office to pick up a pre-application, located at 520 W Kiowa Ave., McAlester, OK 74501, from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm CT, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. The MHA does not hand out or receive pre-applications on the 1st through the 6th of the month.
Once the pre-application has been completed, it must be hand delivered to the address listed above from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. The MHA does not hand out or receive pre-applications on the 1st through the 6th of the month.
Be sure to include these documents with the pre-application: Social Security Cards and birth certificates for all household members, photo IDs for all adult household members, proof of all income, and letter from school (if enrolled in school).
The MHA does have preferences, and will go over them when you pick up the pre-application.
Applicants will receive a confirmation number upon submitting the pre-application. It is important to keep that number in a safe, easy to access place. It will be needed any time when referencing your pre-application with the housing authority.
As of December 2015, the current wait time for Public Housing is 3 to 6 months.
